They say that food comforts them but when asked how they realise it doesn't. The thought of food comforts them. And then they feel worse when they've eaten the food.

And people do associate food with love but the love isn't coming from the food but the memory of when they had the food. What someone is looking for when upset is something to take the feeling away but nothing on the outside can take what you create on the inside away. You just have a different thought and then feel better.

There are studies showing that dopamine is released at the thought of food but not as it's being eaten.
