Totally agree, doing Sudoku just makes you better at Sudoku.

As you say language learning is good as is learning a musical instrument. Music powerfully stimulates the brain and changes its structure. It seems that learning to play a musical instrument has what is called a transfer effect and works on many functions at the same time.
